Hippo (San Jose, Calif.) has deployed an AI-driven claims workflow designed to streamline operations, improve response times and support increased claims volume without proportional staffing increases.

The initiative introduces a digital-first claims intake process supported by AI, enabling faster data capture, improved triage and more consistent outcomes across the claims lifecycle.

“We’ve reimagined our claims operation from intake through resolution, moving from legacy systems to a unified platform that enables faster workflows, clearer communication and more consistent outcomes for homeowners at scale,” says Peter Piotrowski, Chief Claims Officer, Hippo. “By embedding AI across the claims lifecycle, we’re improving accuracy and freeing adjusters to focus on the most complex cases where empathy and judgment matter most, balancing technology with human care to deliver a better experience.”

At the center of the platform is Clara, a voice-enabled AI agent that supports first notice of loss by capturing and structuring claim data in real time and routing claims for processing. The company expects more than 70 percent of claims to be filed digitally as a result of the new system.

AI capabilities are embedded across multiple stages of the claims process, including triage, fraud detection, document review and customer communications, enabling faster decision-making and improved operational efficiency.

Claims Powered by Agentic AI Workforce

“Our vision is a claims operation powered by an agentic AI workforce supporting adjusters on everything from first notice through adjudication and audit,” says Kyle Ramsay, Chief Product Officer, Hippo. “This approach allows our teams to focus on judgment while AI manages scale and workflow efficiency.”

According to the company, the platform also supports remote claims assessment through aerial imagery and virtual inspections, reducing the need for on-site visits and accelerating claims resolution, particularly during catastrophe events.

Hippo says the transformation is intended to improve scalability, enhance customer experience and support long-term operational efficiency as claims volumes grow.
