Verisk (Jersey City, N.J.) has acquired McKenzie Intelligence Services (London), a geospatial intelligence and event-response company focused on catastrophe and conflict event analysis.
MIS provides rapid post-event damage assessment and real-time intelligence for major loss events, according to a Verisk statement. The acquisition brings MIS into Verisk’s Catastrophe and Risk Solutions business, adding geospatial event intelligence to Verisk’s catastrophe models, risk analytics and claims solutions.
“Verisk and MIS share a commitment to helping clients make faster, more confident decisions before, during, and after catastrophic events,” comments Rob Newbold, President, Verisk Catastrophe and Risk Solutions. “By bringing MIS’s real-time geospatial intelligence together with Verisk’s catastrophe models, risk analytics, and claims solutions, we can give clients a more complete view of unfolding events so they can assess impacts, prioritize response and support policyholders more effectively.”
MIS aggregates and analyzes multi-source geospatial data to help insurers, reinsurers, brokers and loss adjusters evaluate major events. Its capabilities support financial and operational decisions, property-level damage assessment, claims resolution, portfolio exposure estimates, claims triage and litigation support.
Verisk says the acquisition will also deepen its strike, riot and civil commotion, and political violence risk analytics by adding real-time, incident-level intelligence during unfolding events.
“We’ve worked with Verisk to integrate real-time event data for rapid accumulation analysis, so it felt like a natural fit to join the team, especially as catastrophes grow increasingly disruptive around the world,” comments Forbes McKenzie, Founder, MIS. “Together with Verisk’s risk modelling and claims solutions, we can help insurers better serve policyholders during their most challenging moments.”
Verisk says MIS will become part of its catastrophe risk modeling, global loss index, analytics and risk data portfolio. The company says the combination, along with Verisk Maplecroft’s external-risk monitoring capabilities, is intended to give clients a more connected view of emerging and unfolding risks across operations, supply chains and investments.
Verisk recently introduced Verisk Synergy Studio, a cloud-native platform designed to unify catastrophe modeling, exposure management and risk analytics. The company also acquired Verisk Model Exchange in 2025, adding a catastrophe modeling platform for evaluating multiple independent views of catastrophe risk within a governed, vendor-neutral environment.
Verisk says the MIS transaction is not expected to have a material impact on financial results.
