The Phoenix Companies (Hartford) has named Gina Collopy O’Connell chief risk officer. O’Connell, who currently serves as senior vice president of Financial Planning and Analysis, will be responsible for overall leadership and direction for enterprise risk management and will report to James D. Wehr, president and CEO. She will succeed Mark Griffin, who is resigning from the company effective July 17, 2015.
“Gina has been with Phoenix for 30 years and played key roles in a number of corporate and business functions,” comments Wehr. “A seasoned actuary with a breadth of operational and product experience, she has been very involved with managing operational and litigation risk and is a natural fit to lead enterprise risk management.”
In her role as senior VP, Financial Planning and Analysis, O’Connell recently played a significant role in The Phoenix Companies’ restatement and remediation efforts. She was previously responsible for oversight of the insurer’s quarterly forecast and annual financial plan processes and leading Life and Annuity Planning, Operations, Underwriting and Variable Products. O’Connell will continue to serve as a senior advisor to the actuarial student program.
