The Hartford has named A. Morris “Mo” Tooker executive VP and chief underwriting officer for the carrier’s P&C businesses effective today. Tooker will report to Doug Elliot, the company’s president. Tooker will oversee underwriting across The Hartford’s Small Commercial, Middle Market, Large Commercial and Personal Lines segments, and he will lead development of the company’s underwriting approach for new markets and growth areas.
“Mo is a recognized and admired leader in the global insurance industry,” comments Elliot. “His deep knowledge of the international, property and specialty insurance markets will be instrumental in driving our expanded risk appetite as we pursue growth opportunities in new and evolving markets.”
Tooker brings more than 23 years of global insurance and reinsurance experience with General Reinsurance Corporation, a global property and casualty and life and health reinsurance company and subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. In his most recent role as president of Gen Re, Tooker was responsible for the company’s global property and casualty reinsurance business. During his tenure with Gen Re, he also oversaw the company’s global treaty reinsurance and property, engineering and marine facultative businesses.
