Metromile, the San Francisco-based pay-per-mile pioneer, announced that Sunil Rajaraman has joined the company as its chief marketing officer.

Rajaraman leads the teams responsible for bringing Metromile’s experience and savings to more drivers and sharing the company’s vision, according to a Metromile statement. The company recently created fractional insurance to reduce the cost of car ownership to support the growing popularity of the shared mobility industry. Metromile’s fractional insurance is designed to help drivers save money by preventing the need to “double-up” on insurance coverage when their car is rented on a shared car marketplace.

Before joining Metromile, Rajaraman was an entrepreneur-in-residence at Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm Foundation Capital, where he advised startups on go-to-market strategies. He previously founded Scripted.com, a marketplace for businesses to hire writers, where he was CEO, and Radiance Labs, which helped companies communicate and retain their customers. Sunil has also run The Bold Italic, a San Francisco-focused publication, which he later sold to Medium, and led marketing at HR software company Replicon.
