Socotra (San Francisco) has released Socotra Assistant, an AI underwriting capability embedded within its Operations Workbench platform. The assistant is designed to support underwriting workflows across insurance products and geographies by analyzing documents, extracting data and generating risk insights within the core system. The capability is generally available to all Socotra customers and can be configured without coding.

“Insurers see high value in AI, but they’re tired of demos and bolt-ons that don’t scale in production,” says Dan Woods, CEO, Socotra. “Socotra is now the only insurance core with built-in AI that is safe, quickly configured, continually improving, product-agnostic and available to all customers. Socotra AI is mature AI.”

Socotra Assistant is integrated into the company’s Insurance Suite, including policy and billing systems, allowing it to access and act on live operational data. The platform uses APIs and a unified data model to support underwriting processes from submission through decision.

According to the company, the assistant enables underwriters to extract data from emails, documents and forms, identify missing or inconsistent information, assess risk against defined criteria and generate structured summaries with audit trails.

The system is designed to operate within regulated environments with governance controls, including human approval for actions, transparent reasoning for recommendations and permanent audit records of AI-driven activities.

Socotra says the assistant can be deployed within approximately one week and supports insurer-specific workflows without training on proprietary data.
