The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (New York) has announced that Andrew J. McMahon will join the company as Executive VP of Strategy and Customer Development. The insurer characterizes newly created role as strengthening its commitment to a holistic customer-focused approach across all its business lines.
McMahon will be responsible for developing enterprise strategy, corporate development and advancing digital customer experience. He will be a member of Guardian’s Executive Leadership Team and will report to Deanna Mulligan, the company’s President and CEO.
“Our customers expect and deserve an outstanding experience as we deliver on our commitment to serve their financial needs,” comments Mulligan. “I am confident Andrew will build on the great work already being done at Guardian, and create new opportunities that benefit all of our customers.”
Industry Veteran with InsurTech Credentials
McMahon’s career combines deep industry experience and a wealth of experience working with InsurTech startups. He is a former President and board member of AXA US (New York), and prior to his tenure at AXA was a partner at McKinsey. McMahon began his career at General Electric and worked in a variety of functions across several operating businesses. During the past four years, he has invested, launched and advised several InsureTech companies, including recently having been granted a patent for an approach using AI for financial risk assessment and insurance underwriting.

McMahon recently served on the board of directors of Phoenix Life Insurance Companies (Hartford) before and after the sale to NassauRe (Hartford). He has also served on the boards of AXA US, Alliance Bernstein (New York), and the American Council of Life Insurers (Washington, D.C.). He is an executive advisor to Gryphon Investors (San Franisco) and a member of the board of trustees for Fairfield University. He received his MBA from Columbia University and BS in computer science from Fairfield University.
