Liberty Mutual Insurance (Boston) has established a new leadership structure to align its Global Risk Solutions (GRS) and Liberty Mutual Investments businesses, appointing Vlad Barbalat as President, Global Risk & Capital Solutions.

Tim Sweeney, President and CEO, Liberty Mutual.

The leadership changes aim to bring GRS and LMI into closer strategic alignment leveraging the company’s competitive strength rooted in mutuality, underwriting excellence and disciplined deployment of capital, according to a Liberty Mutual statement. The new structure will better serve customers and partners and position Liberty Mutual to deliver on its 2030 aspiration to be the preeminent global insurance and capital solutions partner, the statement adds.

Barbalat will continue to serve as Chief Investment Officer and oversee strategy and execution across both units, with responsibility for advancing the company’s long-term objectives.

“Liberty Mutual is in the strongest position in its history,” says Tim Sweeney, Chairman, President and CEO, Liberty Mutual Insurance. “We have an opportunity to connect our risk, capital and technology capabilities so we can move faster and deliver better outcomes for our customers and partners.”

Under the new structure, Global Risk Solutions and Liberty Mutual Investments will remain separate business units but operate with closer strategic alignment.

“What Global Risk Solutions and Liberty Mutual Investments share is fundamental—both underwrite risk and deploy capital into uncertainty,” comments Barbalat. “Together, they enable customers and partners to build and grow while supporting broader economic progress.”

The company says the changes are intended to strengthen coordination across underwriting and capital deployment while supporting its long-term strategic goals.
