KYND Adds AI Detection for Cyber Underwriting

KYND (Austin, Texas) has launched an AI discovery capability designed to help cyber insurers identify AI technologies across an organization’s external digital footprint during risk selection.

Melanie Hayes, Co-Founder, KYND.

The capability works from a single domain and does not require information supplied directly by the insured, giving underwriters an independently observed source of data to use alongside proposal forms and underwriting discussions.

KYND says the capability can identify AI assistants and chatbots, generative AI tools, AI embedded in marketing and commerce technology and AI crawlers permitted by an organization’s infrastructure.

“Every AI question on a proposal form can only tell an underwriter what a business knows and declares,” comments Melanie Hayes, Co-Founder, KYND. “Underwriters have been pricing AI exposure on trust because there was nothing else to go on. Having something observed on the risk itself changes where the conversation starts.”

From Risk Selection to Portfolio Accumulation

KYND positions the new capability as a response to growing concern that AI adoption may outpace an organization’s ability to monitor or disclose its use.

Applied across a portfolio, the same technology data can also help insurers and reinsurers identify repeated AI technologies and dependencies across multiple insureds.

“The bigger issue is what happens when you look across the book,” Hayes adds. “If the same AI technologies and dependencies are showing up repeatedly across insureds, that can quickly become an accumulation issue.”

KYND says the capability builds on its broader technology-detection platform, which also identifies services and tools including payment and cloud platforms, analytics and tracking pixels, session-recording technology, identity and access management systems and website infrastructure.

The company says that broader visibility can help insurers assess technology dependencies at both the individual-risk and portfolio levels.
