Kingstone Insurance (Kingston, N.Y.) has signed an agreement with home telematics solution provider Roost (Sunnyvale, Calif.) in support of a policyholder engagement program to offer either a free Roost Smart Water Leak and Freeze Detector or a Roost Smart Battery to select new and existing policyholders.

Dale A. Thatcher, President and COO, Kingstone Insurance Company.

Founded in 1886, Kingstone Insurance provides homeowners policies in New York and the Northeast region. The Upstate New York-based  insurer will begin a pilot program deploying Roost smart sensors to help policyholders mitigate the cost and inconvenience of fire, smoke and water leak related claims. Through the agreement, the insurer will also seek to engage customers using Roost’s co-branded Kingstone Insurance mobile app, recently enhanced with emergency weather alerts and home service pro access, according to the vendor.

“For more than a century we have been a trusted standard bearer for safety and security in the New York insurance industry, always searching for new ways to best meet our policyholders’ needs,” comments Dale Thatcher, President and COO, Kingstone Insurance Company. “Now, with Roost we will also be the brand of forward-looking innovation. Together we will deliver smart sensors that give our customers the best technology to mitigate their risk of water and fire loss. At the same time, the initiative enables us to deepen our ongoing relationship with policyholders and agents.”

Roel Peeters, CEO, Roost.

Roost describes its Smart 9V Battery as a simple retrofit solution that transforms existing smoke alarms into smart alarms. If the alarm sounds and no one is home, a smartphone notification is delivered. The Roost Smart Water Leak and Freeze Detector is designed to sense water leaks as well as humidity and freezing temperature situations. The sensors are easily located in places around the home most prone to water leaks such as sinks, hot water heaters, toilets and various appliances; they then deliver smartphone alerts via the co-branded Kingstone app to help minimize water damage and loss. TheWi-Fi enabled smart sensors don’t require a hub and set up in less than five minutes, a Roost statement explains.

Extending Tradition of Customer Service

“We are excited to be working with Kingstone Insurance to deliver a wide-range of new smart sensor capabilities to the company and its policyholders,” comments Roel Peeters, co-founder and CEO of Roost. “With Roost’s Home Telematics solutions, Kingstone is extending its proud tradition of service and improving its ability to engage with its policyholders in a meaningful way.”
