John Hancock (Boston) has expanded its life insurance portfolio with enhancements to its Protection IUL 26 indexed universal life product and its term life insurance offerings.

The changes are intended to give financial professionals greater flexibility in matching coverage to clients’ long-term protection and planning needs, including options for permanent coverage, indexed growth potential and conversion from term to permanent insurance.

Hector Martinez, Head of Insurance, John Hancock.

“Financial plans are not one-size-fits-all,” comments Hector Martinez, Head of Insurance, John Hancock. “With our enhanced protection portfolio, we are offering financial professionals a broader set of solutions to help them serve clients effectively and meaningfully over time with greater choice, growth potential, and future flexibility.”

The updated Protection IUL 26 offering includes additional guarantee options alongside indexed growth potential. The product includes a Death Benefit Protection rider, while customers can elect an Enhanced Death Benefit Protection rider designed to extend guarantees through age 100 or beyond, subject to premium and policy requirements.

John Hancock has also expanded its term portfolio to three options spanning lower-cost protection-oriented coverage and products offering greater conversion flexibility. The insurer says the changes are designed to provide a clearer path from temporary coverage to permanent life insurance as clients’ needs change.

Aligning with Clients’ Needs

“Term insurance plays a critical role in giving clients protection options that align with their needs wherever they are on their planning journey,” Martinez adds.

Eligible customers purchasing the products also receive access to the John Hancock Vitality program, which combines health-related tools, education and rewards with the insurer’s life insurance offerings.

John Hancock positions the product changes within a broader focus on longevity planning. Its 2025 Longevity Preparedness Index, developed with the MIT AgeLab, found that U.S. adults averaged 60 out of 100 in preparedness for longer lives. The research considered factors extending beyond finances to health, care, housing, community and major life transitions.
