Sandbox Insurtech Ventures, a Chicago-based venture capital firm that invests in promising insurance technology start-ups regardless of stage, and drives collaboration between incumbents and InsurTechs, has announced that Jayant Khadilkar has joined as a Fund Advisor.
A veteran reinsurance technologist of more than 30 years, Khadilkar is recognized for having created some of the initial models for catastrophe risk quantification during his early tenure at Applied Insurance Research. Later, at Renaissance Reinsurance, he was responsible for all exposure management and technology and spearheaded the development of REMS, a proprietary reinsurance pricing platform.
Subsequently, Khadilkar founded Weather Predict, a forecasting company with patented technology geared toward helping financial institutions hedge weather risk. Khadilkar then went on to join the executive team at TigerRisk Partners soon after its founding, and, as the Global Head of Analytics and Technology, helped establish the company as a dominant reinsurance broker and capital advisory firm. More recently, Khadilkar has served as mentor, investor, and board member to several start-ups.
Sophisticated Understanding
“We are delighted to have Jayant Khadilkar join our Sandbox team,” comments Chris Zock, Managing Director, Sandbox. “Jayant has been a pioneer throughout his career, driving change in the way the (re)insurance industry leverages technology. His broad insurance background and sophisticated understanding of how technology is actually used by incumbents will be valuable as we evaluate investment opportunities and enable strategic use cases for our insurance partners and investors.”
“The Sandbox Insurtech Ventures investment team has a sharp focus on value creation,” comments Khadilkar. “They have established a collaborative venture capital structure that accelerates the ability of their limited partners to access and integrate emerging technologies into their (re)insurance operations. Sandbox brings insurance executives into the diligence process in order to evaluate the validity of business use cases alongside the investment opportunity, which in turn creates meaningful connections between start-ups and insurers. I’m excited to join the Sandbox team as a Fund Advisor.”
