Nino Tarantino is one of the most recognizable figures in auto insurance telematics, having launched Octo in North America and having signed some of the biggest carriers in the U.S.. He was nominated as Influencer of the Year at the 2018 TU Automotive Detroit show, and he was recognized for Best Telematics Product in 2017 while he was with Octo, and in 2020 while at IMS.

Tarantino is now General Manager of Insurance at Sfara (Hoboken, N.J.), a provider of mobile-based crash detection and safety technologies. Sfara offers automatic, on-scene, first-notice-of-loss (FNOL) solutions, and has pioneered ultra-low speed crash detection for smart phones—a capability that has eluded the industry and in the absence of which makes it impossible for many incidents to be measured and recorded.

“Sfara’s ultra low speed detections are crucial to the industry,” said Tarantino. “After all, approximately 70 percent of claims initiate from the lower speed bands. Embedded and aftermarket solutions are often not capable of detections in these lower speeds or they consistently generate costly false positives.”
