ID Federation (Wilmington, Delaware), a nonprofit coalition of insurance carriers committed to improving the security and efficiency of insurance transactions, has appointed industry veteran Alvito Vaz to lead its industrywide rollout of SignOn Once single-sign-on identity management solution, according to a statement from the organization.

Vaz succeeds as business manager from Irv Kantar, who is retiring after serving in the position for the last five years. Vaz will continue to increase awareness and adoption of SignOn Once and facilitate carrier and agent implementation of the solution.
Vaz has over 30 years of experience in leading insurance digital transformation initiatives. He retired from the insurance industry in 2021 after spending 10 years with Travelers (Hartford). There he was VP in charge of defining platform technical vision and strategy. He spent 20 years at various roles at Progressive (Mayfield, Ohio), including as IT director responsible for agent services and web presence platforms.
Vaz has extensive experience with comparative rater and management vendors in the agency automation space. He has also worked on setting insurance standards as a member of ACORD’s (Pearl River, N.Y.) Property & Casualty Steering Committee. He was an inaugural member of the Big “I” Agents Council for Technology (ACT), where he participated in and chaired ACT workgroups.

ID Federation describes SignOn Once as having been created exclusively for agents, carriers and technology solution providers to improve the security and efficiency of insurance transactions. The solution eliminates the need for password management by enabling one identity to replace multiple IDs and passwords for insurance system users and providing protection from unauthorized use and attacks.
ID Federation is encouraging the industry to implement SignOn Once as carriers enhance their agency management system security measures through multi-factor authentication (MFA). Industrywide adoption of SignOn Once would provide agents with consistency among carrier platforms, with only one set of credentials required for all participating carriers, according to the ID Federation.
“The number of different carrier technology interfaces is already for agents to navigate, and carriers moving toward MFA will only further complicate agent processes,” says Vaz. “I understand the perspective of both agents and carriers thanks to my work in this area, and I am committed to helping the industry improve the process workflow and become more secure.”
