Frank Winston Crum Insurance (FWCI; Clearwater, Fla.), through its MGA FrankCrum General Agency, has selected Instec’s (Naperville, Ill.) cloud-based Instec Underwriting, Instec Policy, and Instec Billing systems. The company provides workers’ compensation and general liability insurance to small- and medium-sized businesses in 37 states. FWCI characterizes the initiative as representative of its continued commitment to be the insurance carrier that combines smart people and leading technologies to create the easiest experience for producer.

“We have ambitious growth plans and we want greater control over all our supporting functions,” comments Matt Crum, president, FWCI. “In conjunction with the deployment of our own systems, we’re building a solid operations and compliance team.”

FWCI differentiates itself through its digital distribution capabilities, operating under a direct-to-agent model with nearly all policies sold and administered through its proprietary agent portal. Instec says it satisfied the carrier’s need for a robust API catalog to integrate with the portal and third-party data providers.

Checking All the Boxes

“Instec’s technology and insurance industry experience checked all the boxes,” comments Crum. “Our due diligence gave us the confidence that they have what it takes to deliver on substantial commitments.”

FWCI has assembled an in-house team to partner with Instec on system implementation. The company will run a parallel project to update its agent portal and integrate it with back office functions through Instec’s APIs. FWCI’s producers will be able to continue to quote, bind, and manage their policies, while Instec Underwriting introduces features that will improve the user experience, according to the vendor. These features include configurable workflows and live chat to streamline risk acceptance, producer collaboration, and policyholder servicing.
