Duck Creek Technologies (Boston) has launched an insurance-native agentic AI platform and introduced new applications aimed at improving underwriting and claims operations for property/casualty carriers.

Duck Creek says the platform enables insurers to deploy, orchestrate, and govern AI agents across the insurance lifecycle, embedding automation directly into core workflows. The approach reflects a broader industry push to move beyond isolated AI use cases toward coordinated, end-to-end decisioning.

According to Boston Consulting Group (Boston), AI could generate significant annual impact for the U.S. insurance market, underscoring the economic stakes behind such platform strategies.

“Agentic AI will redefine how insurance operates—enabling carriers to move from manual, fragmented processes to orchestrated end-to-end decisioning and support for all personas to drive better outcomes and continuously improve,” comments Hardeep Gulati, Chief Executive Officer, Duck Creek. “Our Agentic Platform combines our leadership in core systems, proprietary insurance domain ontology and expertise, and Agentic AI with neuro-symbolic reasoning to create agents that operate with full context, governance, traceability and human in the loop—so carriers can scale AI with confidence and trust.”

Platform Architecture Emphasizes Governance and Integration

The agentic platform combines carrier data, domain models, and neuro-symbolic reasoning to support AI agents operating within insurance workflows and constraints. It is structured around several layers:

  • Agentic Intelligence: Model context repository using generative AI, machine learning, and domain knowledge
  • Agentic Orchestration: Coordination of AI agents across workflows with human-in-the-loop controls
  • AI Assurance: Governance features including traceability, auditability, and compliance controls
  • AI Gateway: Integration framework supporting partner and customer-built agents
  • Core Systems Integration: Real-time access to policy, claims, billing, and risk data

The platform supports both embedded and headless deployment models, allowing carriers to introduce agentic capabilities without replacing existing core systems.

Initial Applications Target Underwriting and FNOL

Duck Creek has also introduced two applications intended to demonstrate the platform’s impact on high-value workflows:

  • Agentic Underwriting Workbench: Applies AI agents to intake, triage, and enrich submissions, aiming to improve quote speed and risk selection
  • Agentic First Notice of Loss (FNOL): Uses coordinated agents to capture, validate, and route claims across channels, with the goal of improving data quality and reducing cycle times

The FNOL application has been developed with Google Cloud (Mountain View, Calif.) and leverages Gemini models to support capabilities such as coverage verification and early fraud detection at intake.

Shift Toward Orchestrated Decisioning

The platform and applications illustrate a shift from task-level automation to orchestrated workflows spanning underwriting and claims. For carriers, the potential lies in combining AI-driven efficiency gains with governance frameworks that support auditability and regulatory compliance.

Duck Creek says its approach emphasizes integrating AI within existing operational and data environments, reflecting a growing industry focus on scaling AI while maintaining control, transparency, and alignment with core system architectures.
