COUNTRY Financial (Bloomington, Ill.)  has joined Roost’s (Sunnyvale, Calif.) Home Telematics Program (HTP), which applies advanced analytics to yield insights into the effect of home installation of Roost smart sensors on fire and water loss mitigation as well as customer engagement.

As a member of the HTP, COUNTRY Financial will deploy to some of its policyholders various kits of Roost Smart Sensors, including the Roost Smart 9V Battery (for smoke alarms) and the Roost Smart Water Leak and Freeze Detector. The devices deliver notifications to customers’ smartphones when a suspected water leak or fire event occurs.

“Smart devices are appearing in every room of the home, and we are embracing the opportunity to work with Roost and the HTP to deploy smart sensors that will have a direct and immediate positive impact on our customers,” comments Jeremy Brewer, national home product manager at COUNTRY Financial. “Just as important, the HTP will help us tap into critical and objective intelligence that will guide us in intelligently engaging with our customers. Every day we look for new ways to bring meaningful value to them, and Roost’s innovative technologies are a terrific addition to our efforts.”

Roel Peeters, CEO, Roost.

The Roost Smart 9V Battery is a simple retrofit solution that transforms existing smoke alarms into smart alarms. If the alarm sounds and no one is home, a smartphone notification is delivered. The Roost Smart Water Leak and Freeze Detector is designed to sense water leaks as well as humidity and freezing temperature situations. Each detector can be easily located in places around the home most prone to water leaks such as sinks, hot water heaters, toilets and various appliances. The device then then delivers smartphone alerts via the Roost app enabling homeowners to minimize water damage and loss to the mutual benefit of policyholder and insurer. The Wi-Fi enabled sensors don’t require a hub and can be set up in less than five minutes.

Developing Best Practices

“It is exciting to have COUNTRY Financial, with policyholders across the U.S., join the HTP and enjoy the shared benefits of this unique home telematics industry group,” comments Roel Peeters, Roost CEO. “By sharing insights and data, the HTP will develop best practices for the deployment of smart sensors in the home, enable deeper engagement with policyholders and deliver valuable insights into the bottom line cost savings impact on claims.”
