Checkr (San Francisco) has launched an insurance offering designed to give auto, life and home insurers direct access to records used to evaluate applicants and price risk.

The offering gives carriers access to identity, criminal, public-record and driving data from more than 2,400 government sources, with data refreshed daily and classified into more than 250 offense types, according to a Checkr statement.

Michele Casertano, General Manager of Insurance and Trust, Checkr.

The launch is intended to address a growing challenge in digital insurance shopping, where consumers increasingly expect to obtain quotes before completing an application or speaking with an agent. Checkr cites J.D. Power’s 2026 Insurance Shopping Study, which found that consumers obtain an average of 3.5 quotes before purchasing a policy, the highest level on record. The study also found that 48 percent of new auto insurance policies are purchased digitally, up from 36 percent five years ago.

Checkr says that shift creates challenges for carriers that must evaluate more applicants, faster, with less verified information before knowing whether a shopper will become a policyholder.

Carriers often must choose between running comprehensive checks up front, which can add cost for applicants who never convert, or quoting on self-reported information and later revising the price when verified data arrives. Checkr says the latter approach can create friction if prices change before purchase.

“Insurance is a high-stakes business, but too often the information carriers rely on is one step removed from the source,” comments Michele Casertano, General Manager of Insurance and Trust, Checkr. “Checkr’s insurance solution changes that. By giving carriers direct access to fresher, more comprehensive records, we’re helping them move faster, make better-informed decisions, and give customers greater confidence.”

Earlier Applicant Intelligence

Checkr’s insurance offering is designed to help carriers produce more informed pricing estimates at the initial quote stage. The company says the platform gives pricing and analytics teams a clearer, more structured view of applicants before purchase.

The offering includes coverage across more than 260 million profiles, covering 96 percent of U.S. adults, according to Checkr. The company says its data includes up to 20 percent more driving, criminal and public records than legacy providers.

Checkr says the platform uses higher-confidence matching to connect applicants to the correct records and reduce manual review. The company also says its outcome-based pricing means carriers pay when an applicant becomes a policyholder, rather than per transaction.

“Hippo’s quoting and underwriting technology is central to how we build a disciplined, diversified portfolio of risk,” comments Ilya Shnol, Chief Underwriting Officer, Hippo. “Checkr gives us access to additional data signals that help inform our risk assessment earlier in the process.”

Shnol says the additional data supports more consistent underwriting decisions and helps Hippo identify homeowners who are a good fit for its program.

Checkr says its insurance offering is available to carriers nationwide.

Checkr provides AI-powered verification technology for employment, insurance, mortgage and tenant verification. The company says more than 140,000 customers globally use its platform.
